League of legends - Skin
NEWS:
I won something with the league of legends fanart I did for the contest.
A small bamboo tablet and some fun stuff and goodies.
Here another fanart I did for my favorite champion of the game:
The dragonlady Shyvana.
Connected to the "Lunar revel" event, where some champions got a new, asian style looking skin.
I expected Shyvana to get a new one as well, something with a chinese dragon form.
But it didnt happen, too bad - and thats why I made one myself:
"Thai-Chi-Vana" - The name is as cheesy as it gets. ^^

Art order challenge - Dragons
Hi there everyone,
since the relaunch of the art order website, there has been a rather short number of art order challenges so far. The latest was about dragons, to be more specific more about dragons and how they influence the society, the surrounding or how others interact with them.
The topics are of a wide range: from book, editorial, covers to concept art.
And as your works might get seen/ get some nice feedback - I thougt I should take that challenge to push myself further.
The idea:
Dragons do exist. By that they got worshipped by humanity as god like creatures and therefore replacing the christian or other religions by some sort of dragon cult. (Sounds logical to me)
Today the united nations meet at the great dragon council hall to do discuss the worlds topics, with them is the elder dragon, a colossal ancient creature that guides humanity with his wisdom and knowledge.

League of Legends
Yes, I am playing League of legends. And there was this nice fanart contest where you can win a Wacom cintique !!! *drool*
What else is there to say, I just HAD to paint something.
The topic was the "Season 3" patch, where a lot of stuff was changed, new items, champions and stuff like that. They wanted a picture that shows one or more champions and how they prepare for the upcoming changes. At least one new item had to be included.
So here is my humble piece, the dragon lady Shyvana, one of my personal favorites, with the new "Machete".
For those who dont play Lol: There is this area called the jungle, where you can farm exp and gold from monsters, and those got a lot stronger in S3. Terefore I made up this training camp.

Fire elemental in oil
Finally, my first oil painting.
An interesting media and my respect for artists that can put it to great use grew a lot.
Fascinating what you can do with it, it dries really slowly, which I find somewhat relaxing compared to whatercolors or acrylics.
The colors react differently, depending on all sorts of factors, is it an opaque color or transparent, did you mix anything into it, in which state of drying is the color, mixing on the palet vs mixing on the painting.
By the way I painted this one on the back of a watercolor block, those boards are usually really thick. Some layers of gesso over it and it was ready to go. A lot of artists in america use masonit, which is pretty unknown here in germany. (In the US they make car plates, scateboards and some guitars out of it- if I am not mistaken ^^) The closest I could find here was a special type of compressed wood.
So for now, a fire elemental. Digitalizing those is a pain and although I overworked it in PS, it still looks kinda dirty.

Warcraft cards ! Finally
Finally I can show you some of the cards I did for the warcraft TCG !
There is a nice story behind this.
I wanted to make some good fanarts so that I can send a portfolio to Blizzard. Nerzhul was always a character who fascinated me, he has such a strong influence on the warcraft history that I was wondering why there are as good as none pictures of him. Only the really old concept design from Warcraft 1 or 2.
And so I made these 3 pictures:

http://vaejoun.deviantart.com/gallery/?q=doomhammer#/d4h1nrm
http://vaejoun.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4hnv21
Just when I was ready and started to prepare my pdf portfolio I got a message from the art director of the TCG. OoO It seems he somehow saw my fanarts on deviantart and wrote me first. ^^
Working together with David Baron was great as he actually has some knowledge on art himself and gives reasonable feedback and critics.
And here some results:
Ner'zhul - the print turned out great and looks awesome with the holocraphic effect on the background and his eyes.
Mulgore Guardian: This one was tricky. I had some problems getting the depth effect and the colors right.
Drom'kor - Timewallker Necrolyte - To my surprise, the magical effects came to be the most difficult part.
I made more pictures, but it seems not all have been printed or used. I will if I can show those too.

Rome - watercolors
Hi,
recently I was working on some watercolor pieces whith realistic motives. In this case I needed something historical, as a lot of board games use medieval or other historical themes, topics or motives.
Therefore I thought it wouldnt hurt to have some of those in my pocket.
Here we go:
A legionnair
I had to find some good reference material first. Its always a big help if you know more about your motive then only how it looks. in this case I used some videos on youtube, where a "Roman" visited a school class and showed them a lot about the armor, tactics and weapons. It was a great insight and helped a lot.
Knowing how the armor was build and put on, how the sword is fixed to the gurdle, why it is at that spot and so on.
